Company Brings Rosemere to the Fore
When it comes to raising money for charity, staff at the Bare and Lancaster offices of financial services company Burton & Fisher have it off to a tee!
They organised a golf day for clients and business contacts at Morecambe Golf Club, which with match funding from the company, raised £969 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation and its 20 Years Anniversary Appeal.
It was the first time the company had hosted its own charity golf day and in choosing to support Rosemere through this event and other fundraising activities in the pipeline for over the coming months, the first time it has made one charity its charity of the year. Director Michael Burton explained: “We normally take a table or participate in other companies’ charitable events so support local causes in an ad hoc way.
“However, when we learned of Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s 20 Years Anniversary Appeal, we decided to get behind it and give it our full backing by taking the charity as our charity of the year, which is a new venture for us.”
Cathy Skidmore, Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s corporate fundraising manager, said: “We are delighted Burton & Fisher has come on board to support us and we look forward to working with the team. We are extremely grateful for the donation it has already given us and believe its help will be significant in us reaching our appeal target.”

Hotel Staff Put a Spring in Rosemere’s Step
Staff from Preston city centre’s Holiday Inn Hotel put a spring into the step of Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s 20 Years Anniversary Appeal by choosing it as their charity for the spring quarter (April to June).
During this three month period, the team raised £620 for the appeal by being sponsored to take part in Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s annual Walk in the in the Dark event in April, which members helped advertise by draping a vinyl banner promoting the walk on the hotel’s ring road facing wall. They have also donated stays and meal gifts as raffle prizes.
Cathy Skidmore, Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s corporate fundraising manager, said: “We are extremely grateful to the team for its tireless efforts to help us raise both funds and awareness of our work this spring.”
Dealership is driven to succeed for Rosemere
Preston car dealership Robins and Day is the driving force behind a charity of the year partnership with Rosemere Cancer Foundation that has already seen it donate just short of £1,000 to the foundation’s 20 Years Anniversary Appeal.
Staff at the company’s Peugeot showroom in Blackpool Road have organised and hosted a classic car show, arranged a raffle, donated raffle prizes to Rosemere and have gifted £1 for every car its sales team has recently sold. With a good six months still to go on the partnership, the team is now planning a sponsored Coast to Coast bike ride to boost its contribution.
Cathy Skidmore, Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s corporate fundraising manager, said: “We are immensely grateful to the whole team at Robins and Day for being so driven to make the partnership such a success!”
The dealership’s general manager Phil Walker added: “The whole of the branch here at Robins & Day Peugeot are extremely proud of our association with Rosemere. The engagement from the staff to get involved and think of new ideas to raise more money for the charity has been so pleasing to see and I hope we can blast through the £1000 barrier very soon.”

Supermarket Chain Backs Rosemere Appeal
Community Fund money is shared out but members can boost the amount their preferred cause receives by going online to register their support, which ensures that all donations from any bags and eligible purchases they then make go exclusively to their chosen cause. Already and just a few weeks since its selection as a Co-op Local Community Fund charity, Rosemere Cancer Foundation has received more than £1,000 from the fund, which it has put towards its 20 Years Anniversary Appeal.
Cathy Skidmore, Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s corporate fundraising manager, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as a beneficiary of the Co-op Local Community Fund. We would ask our supporters, who aren’t already Co-op members, to please sign up and become members to boost the money we receive, which I believe will be significant in helping us reach our appeal target.”
In addition to benefitting from Co-op Local Community Fund selection, the Co-op foodstore in Ripon Road, Preston, the nearest Co-op outlet to Rosemere, has also pledged additional support with the promise of a raffle, a supply of raffle prizes and the placement of the charity’s collection tins at check-outs.
As Co-op Funeralcare also supports the Co-op Local Community Fund, McKenna Funeral Directors in Meadow Street, Preston, which is part of the Funeralcare group, has promised its support too.

We are therefore taking on the challenge of raising £10,000 towards the amazing work done by the charity.”
Cathy Skidmore, Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s corporate fundraising manager, said: “We are delighted to welcome Farleys Solicitors as a fully- fledged charity partner for our 20 Years Anniversary Appeal.
