Walk in the Dark 2026

25th April 2026

Our Walk in the Dark is back for 2026!

This year’s Walk in the Dark, our annual night-time charity trek from Chorley Hospital to Royal Preston, will take place on Saturday April 25th. Do you fancy joining us? Online registration closes at noon on Thursday, 23rd April!

REGISTRATION CLOSED – online entries for this event have now closed. However, you can sign up at the starting point at Chorley, for £20 each payable on the night.

About the walk:

Setting off at roughly 8.15pm, the (approximately 11 mile long) route is signposted and marshalled. The walkers will set off from Chorley Hospital and make their way up the A6 to the motorway junction at Bamber Bridge, where they will turn onto Church Road, then make their way through Bamber Bridge before meeting back up with the A6 at the Yew Tree Inn. They then follow the A6 to Fulwood, turning onto St Vincent’s Road (past Preston College) and onto Sharoe Green Lane to finish at Royal Preston Hospital.

As usual, the kind team at St Saviours Church in Bamber Bridge will open their doors for refreshments and a toilet stop too, at the halfway point of the walk.

You can find a route map here.

There are medals and well deserved refreshments at the end for all walkers, plus, there’s a fab warm-up and entertainment on the night!

It’s £15 to take part and free for under 12s. We’d hugely appreciate it if you could use the challenge as a fundraising opportunity too, as all funds raised through the event will help support life-changing projects for the benefit of local cancer patients, wherever they are cared for across the region.

You can walk in support, in celebration, or in memory of loved ones, you can treat the walk as a fun challenge, or simply as a social activity. It’s completely up to you! All that matters is that you take part and help us raise these crucial funds – you can even bring the dog!

We also love to see our walkers lighting up the dark, so feel free to dress as brightly as you like, or come along in fancy dress! There will even be face painting available at Chorley, and glow-in-the-dark accessories for sale too. Our fundraising team and fab volunteers will be there on the night from 7pm.

There will also be a bus service running from Preston Hospital, to take people to the start line at Chorley. Please note that if you wish to use this service, it MUST be booked in advance here and if you are parking onsite at either Chorley or Preston Hospitals, you must provide us with your car registration number in advance, to ensure that you are not charged for parking.

VOLUNTEERING

Charity events like this rely on volunteers to make them as successful as they can be. If you don’t fancy taking on the distance but you’d like to get involved and make a difference, could you volunteer as a route marshal on the night? If you’re interested, please sign up here and our team will be in touch!

We’d like to give a huge thank you to the Eric Wright Group for the continued support of this event; their kind sponsorship covers the event costs, meaning that as much raised as possible through the event itself can come to support local, life-changing cancer projects.

If you have any queries at all, please call the charity office on 01772 522 913, or email rosemere@lthtr.nhs.uk.
