Due to the outbreak, and with the wellbeing of our supporters at the forefront of our minds, our annual Walk in the Dark isn’t able to go ahead this year in its normal manner. However, that doesn’t mean we’re abandoning it completely.
Instead, we are taking the event to the streets and pathways of Lancashire and South Cumbria – perhaps even beyond – and encouraging you to take on the challenge in your family or friendship group. We want you to do the distance, but socially distanced!
The normal route is roughly 11 miles, from Chorley to Preston. It’s always a great event, and last year raised over £50,000 for Rosemere, to help us support projects across Lancashire and the South Lakes for the benefit of our local cancer patients. By getting involved this year, you’ll be helping us make a huge difference.
So how does it work?
‘Walk in the Dark Goes Virtual’ will launch on Saturday 15th August. You can take on your 11 miles any time between then and Saturday 12th September.
You could stick with the original route from Chorley to Preston if you wish, or you can pick somewhere else, as close to home, as difficult, or as scenic as you like.
As an added challenge, you could even have a go at doing it in darkness, as our original walk is always a night time one! And if the thought of doing the whole 11 miles in one go is a little daunting, don't worry - we'll still count it if you split it up into shorter walks.
All walkers will receive a goody bag, walkers number, and a medal after the event – just let us know when you’re done, and if possible, we’d love to see a map of your route and some photos from your walk too.
How much does it cost?
Registration will cost £10, and those under the age of 12 can do it for free. However, we’d love you to raise as much as you can in sponsorship for your challenge. (If you’d originally signed up to take part in our organised Walk earlier in the year, you should have heard from our fundraising team regarding your options – please get in touch if you have any queries!)
