Cheeky santa dash in the park We are delighted to be teaming up with CLAN Running and Triathlon Club, and event co-founder Louise Harlow, to organise this year's Cheeky Santa Dash! Will you join us?

The annual festive 5k run normally takes place in Avenham Park, and it was traditionally organised by Ben Ashworth and wife Louise. Ben sadly passed away in July 2017 at the age of just 38, following a five-year battle with bowel cancer. During this time, Ben and Louise raised thousands of pounds for charities including Rosemere, and raised a huge amount of awareness for the disease through their 'Ben's Bowel Movements' website.

Due to the outbreak, we have had to make some changes to this annual festive run. Instead of the usual mass-participation event in the park, we are asking people to run, either on their own or in their family bubble, at some point between Saturday, 21st November and Sunday, 13th December.

Instead of running in the park, would like you to take on a there-and-back stretch of Preston's Guild Wheel that was dedicated to Ben in July 2018. Starting at the entrance to Miller Park, the 2.5k stretch heads in the direction of Riversway and was a route favoured by Ben. His stretch ends at a memorial stone, where Louise is suggesting runners drop pebbles or small stones as a show of support.

Louise said: “Ben wanted to bring people together and get them exercising. He also wanted to help other people with cancer, which is why he used his running to fundraise for cancer charities.

“While we can’t do the Cheeky Santa Dash as normal this year, we still hope to invoke the spirit of it and help Rosemere Cancer Foundation as our local cancer charity, which has, like other charities, had a difficult time since lockdown.”

Cheeky DashSo will you join us, for our new, socially-distanced Santa dash for 2020?

it's just £10 to enter (although we would love it if runners could raise sponsorship for their challenge) and all runners will get a commemorative medal. Ben’s 5k Guild Wheel route is a suggested route but entrants are more than welcome to run their own 5k route if they like. And as always, we would LOVE to see you dressed up for your run, if you fancy it - it is a Santa dash after all!
