Thank you to Michael Brennand, of Clan (Central Lancs Running and Triathlon Club) who has taken it upon himself to organise a virtual marathon, in partnership with Rosemere!
The event is asking people to sign up for just £6, and cover the marathon distance of 26.2 miles in stages within 30 days - by running, jogging, walking or even cycling a route during time outdoors for daily exercise.
The marathon can be done solo or with member of the same household to observe current social distancing rules, and on completion, participants will be sent a digital certificate and a medal in the post! The registration fee, minus expenses incurred, will all come to Rosemere.
Michael, who was hoping to run this year's London Marathon to raise funds for us, which has how been postponed, said: “It struck us that for a charity such as Rosemere Cancer Foundation, which relies on people being sponsored to take part in events such as the London Marathon and other organised runs, walks and cycles to raise funds, the postponement and cancellation of such is wiping out a large part of its income.
“By signing up to our virtual marathon, it’s a way of both supporting the charity and setting oneself a personal fitness challenge with an end goal.”
You can register here - https://clan.niftyentries.com/ - and it would be wonderful if participants decided to use this as a fundraising tool too, by raising sponsorship.
