A pair of recliner chairs, which both have specialist inbuilt enhanced support, pressure relief and adjustability, have been delivered to the Royal Preston Hopsital’s oncology in-patient Ribblesdale Ward, thanks to charitable support.
The chairs cost £7,847 and were requested by Joanne Kennedy, clinical lead occupational therapist for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which manages the cancer centre and the 24-bed ward. Joanne explained: “Up until the arrival of the new chairs, Ribblesdale Ward had just the one extremely well used recliner for all its patients.
“However, as many as four, five or more patients could require specialist supportive seating at any one time, which made sharing the one recliner a real challenge.”
Joanne added: “Having the opportunity to sit out of bed safely and comfortably is not only clinically beneficial but deeply important for maintaining dignity, independence and quality of life.”
