Click here to sign up now!

WalkersWe'll be lighting up the night and walking the regular (approximately 11 mile) route from Chorley Hopsital to Royal Preston on Saturday, 23rd April.

Setting off at 8pm, the route is signposted and marshalled, and there are medals and well deserved refreshments for all walkers too! It's £15 to take part, under 12s can join in for free - and all funds raised will come to Rosemere to help make a difference for the benefit of local cancer patients across the region. We are also delighted that this event has once again been sponsored by local construction company the Eric Wright Group, which means we can be sure that as much raised as possible comes to Rosemere to make a difference for local cancer care!

You can walk in thanks for care that you or a loved one has received, you can walk in memory of someone, or you can simply treat it as social event or fitness challenge - what matters is that you join us.

Walk in the DarkWe'd also love it if you could use your place in the walk to raise sponsorship for us, to help boost the amount raised for life-changing cancer projects. You can do this online via sites like Just Giving, or even on Facebook - or you can download a Rosemere sponsor form and collect cash, from here. We’d also love our walkers to light up the route with fancy dress or bright clothing – feel free to be as colourful as you can!

We also have a VIRTUAL option!

We also have the option to do the mileage in your own time, too - as we know not everyone feels ready to return to mass participation events just yet. If you'd rather undertake the challenge in this way, just click here and sign up to our Virtual Walk in the Dark. It's still £15 to enter, and a medal will be posted to you after the event.

You can undertake the 11 miles at any point between the date of the official walk - April 23rd - and Sunday 1st of May. Just let us know when you plan to do it - and don't forget, we'd love you to send us photos!

Important information for all walkers:

• The walk is open to everyone, however please note that all walkers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and children under the age of 12 can take part for free. Dogs are welcome - but they must be on a lead, and you must clean up after them.

• The walk isn’t a race, although you’re more than welcome to run it if you wish. The route is approximately 11 miles long, so you will need to make sure that you are fit enough to complete that distance.

• The route will be marshalled and sign posted so you shouldn’t get lost, however all walkers will be given an emergency contact number when they register, just in case of any difficulties.

• Before the walk starts, we offer a free shuttle bus service from Royal Preston Hospital to take you to the start of the walk at Chorley Hospital. Places need to be booked in advance for this service, which will leave at 7pm from the turning circle opposite St Clare's Church on Sharoe Green Lane, next to the hospital. There will be no shuttle bus at the end of the walk. There will be parking on-site for participants during the walk, but you must provide your car registration when booking. If you use a different car on the day, or you decide after booking to leave your car, then you will need to contact us with the correct registration number - this is to ensure you aren't charged for parking.

•  Walkers will need to sign in at the start of the walk at Chorley, and you will be allocated a walker number at the registration desk, to attach to your clothing or bag so it is visible at all times during the walk.

• All walkers take part in the walk at their own risk and the Rosemere Cancer Foundation will not be responsible for any loss, sickness or injury that might occur as a result of taking part. Please be sensible with footwear and dress accordingly, ideally with a warm waterproof jacket.

• This event is weather dependent and may be cancelled at short notice. It is your responsibility to check that the walk has not been postponed due to bad weather and you can do this by checking our social media accounts and website www.rosemere.org.uk. We will, if we know in advance, email all participants to tell them the walk has been cancelled.

• PLEASE NOTE - on the day of the walk you will not be able to contact staff on the emergency number until 5.30pm so if there have been no updates on social media please assume the walk is still going ahead as planned. For any questions you have regarding the walk, please ensure you have contacted us on 01772 522913 by 4.30pm on Friday 22nd April.

•  On the day of the walk, participants will need to follow and adhere to the relevant government guidelines around social distancing at that time. The event is solely outdoors and can be undertaken in a socially distanced manner. If you are queuing to sign in at the start of the walk, please respect those around you and stand a relevant distance from them.

In the event of government guidelines being changed between now and 23rd April and the event being postponed, we will seek an alternative date to complete the walk. If this isn’t possible, a refund will be offered to all participants.

•  By entering online you confirm that you have read and accept the conditions of entry to Walk in the Dark and the rules and conditions of the event.

If you have any queries at all, please call the charity office on 01772 522 913, or email rosemere@lthtr.nhs.uk.
